British Columbia promised to cut the harmonized sales tax from 12 to 10 per cent by 2014. BC Finance Minister Kevin Falcon announced on May 25th that the tax would be reduced if voters supported the HST in the following month's mail-in referendum. He said the changes would make a big difference for taxpayers. (To make up the lost revenue, the government planned to cancel a corporate income tax cut set for January, 2012 and postpone a small business tax reduction planned for April.)
