About 3,800 Air Canada front counter employees went on strike June 14th just after midnight Eastern Time after talks between their union and the airline failed to reach an agreement. Negotiators for the airline and the Canadian Auto Workers union were unable to agree on a new contract as the strike deadline passed. CAW president Ken Lewenza said his last-minute effort to strike a deal was rejected. (The strike ended two days later when the two sides reached a tentative contract agreement just hours after the federal government tabled back-to-work legislation.)
