The federal government introduced back-to-work legislation June 20th to end the Canada Post lockout. Labor Minister Lisa Raitt said the economy was hurting because of the labor dispute, and the government needed to step in. (The postal service locked out the union on June 15th, claiming rotating strikes that had begun on June 3rd were costing the company tens of millions of dollars in lost business. The bill passed on June 25th after a 58-hour filibuster by opposition parties. The next day, during a rare Sunday sitting, the Senate speedily approved the legislation.)
