A ship carrying Canadian protesters aimed at breaking the Israeli blockade of Gaza was prevented July 1st from leaving port in Greece. Greek officials cited safety concerns but organizers said Greece was bowing to pressure from Israel. Dylan Penner of Ottawa was one of at least 30 Canadians onboard The Tahrir. He said they had just gotten underway when they were stopped. (Canadian activists decided on July 9th to put off their voyage. Several other boats that were part of a protest flotilla also dropped out.)
