Thousands of people lined downtown streets and filled a concert hall in Toronto August 27th to say their final good-byes to former NDP Leader Jack Layton. Drums and bagpipes led a hearse carrying Layton's casket to Roy Thomson Hall. His widow, Olivia Chow, was cheered on by the thousands who lined the streets as she walked a few steps behind. In his eulogy, Canadian diplomat Stephen Lewis spoke of a letter Layton wrote to Canadians shortly before his death, saying it should be followed by all those who believe in his cause. (Layton was cremated -- his ashes spread over three locations in Ontario and Quebec.)
