Wade Belak (BEE'-lak) was found dead of an apparent suicide in a Toronto hotel and condo complex August 31st. He was the third NHLer to have suffered an untimely death during the off-season, on the heels of the passing of forwards Derek Boogaard and Rick Rypien. Pat Quinn coached Belak during his time with the Maple Leafs, and said the news hit close to home. (The three deaths sparked debate on the physical and psychological toll fighting takes on the rugged types known as enforcers.)
