Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger led the New Democrats to their fourth consecutive majority in his first campaign after being chosen to succeed longtime leader Gary Doer in 2009. An exuberant Selinger told supporters at his election night headquarters in Winnipeg that they had made history. (The NDP won 37 seats, the Conservatives 19 and the Liberals one. Conservative Leader Hugh McFadyen immediately announced his resignation after the party failed to gain seats.)
