The long-awaited public inquiry into the Robert Pickton serial-murder investigation opened October 11th in Vancouver. Cameron Ward, the lawyer for many of the families of Pickton's victims, said police botched the investigation either because of ignorance, incompetence or prejudice. (The inquiry had faced controversy over the provincial government's decision not to provide legal funding for several non-profit advocacy groups, prompting them to pull out.)
