The federal government tabled its long-promised bill to end the Canadian Wheat Board's monopoly on sales in Western Canada. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz said the move would give farmers the same right to choose where to sell their grain as farmers in the East already had. (The legislation passed in the House of Commons on November 28th. The Wheat Board promptly launched legal action seeking to overturn the bill.)
