A suicide bomber struck a NATO convoy in Kabul on October 29th killing 17 people, including Master Corporal Byron Greff of Lacombe, Alberta. Prime Minister Stephen Harper said there was no way Canadian military personnel could work in Afghanistan without significant risks. (Greff was the first Canadian to die in Afghanistan since the combat mission ended in July and the new Afghan army training mission began.)
