Japan apologized to Canada's Second World War veterans for the mistreatment they suffered in prisoner of war camps after the Battle of Hong Kong. But some veterans considered it too little, too late. Phil Doddridge, who spent nearly four years in POW camps, said it was tough to believe an apology that was 70 years in coming. Doddridge said the apology would have been more meaningful in the decade after the war.
