The federal government and the Irving shipyard in Halifax reached an agreement in principle to build the navy's next fleet of warships. Prime Minister Stephen Harper made the announcement January 12th at the Irving shipyard. Harper said the Irving shipyard won the contract fairly without any political intervention. (The shipyard will build 21 combat vessels under the 25-billion-dollar deal.)
