Stephen Harper's majority Conservative government passed its omnibus crime bill March 12th, making good on an election promise with a couple of days to spare. Justice Minister Rob Nicholson called the measures included in the massive bill "very reasonable." (The bill increased sentences for drug and sex offences, reduced the use of conditional sentences such as house arrest and provided harsher penalties on young offenders.)
