The Harper government passed legislation March 14th designed to prevent a strike or lockout at Air Canada. In arguing for closure on debating the legislation, Labor Minister Lisa Raitt told the Commons the government had no choice but to bring in the bill in the best interest of the country. (Labor unrest continued though, with a wildcat strike by ground workers at Toronto's Pearson International and dozens of pilots twice calling in sick, delaying or cancelling hundreds of flights. In July, a federal arbitrator sided with Air Canada in its labor dispute with the union representing its pilots.)
