Air Canada was forced to cancel more than two dozen flights to Canadian and US destinations March 23rd as a wildcat strike by its ground workers threatened to create travel chaos at Pearson International Airport in Toronto. Mira Hrudka (roo-KUH') -- a Canadian living in San Francisco -- was trying to reach Thunder Bay, Ontario to visit her dying cousin. (Three workers were suspended after Labor Minister Lisa Raitt was heckled while walking through the airport. When word of the suspensions spread, their colleagues staged the illegal walkout, prompting the firing of 37 workers. The ground workers returned to their posts after an arbitrator told them that everyone would be reinstated and there would be no punishment.)
