A former Nova Scotia politician who defrauded the public purse to feed his gambling habit was sentenced April 19th for his part in the legislative spending scandal. Judge Peter Ross sentenced ex-Liberal MLA Dave Wilson to nine months in jail for taking almost 61-thousand dollars from constituency allowances. Defense attorney Steven O'Leary said the sentence was fair and Wilson was mentally prepared for it. (The former chairman of the Liberal caucus pleaded guilty the previous September to fraud, breach of trust and uttering forged documents. The judge ordered him to repay the money he took.)
