Michael Rafferty apologized to Victoria Stafford's family in court May 15th after hearing victim impact statements about the devastating effects of the Woodstock, Ontario girl's death. He said that while he was "very definitely" part of why Victoria was not there, he stood firmly behind his not-guilty plea. Outside the court, Tori's mother Tara McDonald said she was relieved the trial was over and her family could start to heal. (Rafferty was formally sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. He was also sentenced to 10 years to be served concurrently for sexual assault causing bodily harm and kidnapping.)
