On June 15th, three armored car employees were shot and killed and another was critically injured in a post-midnight attack at the University of Alberta's mall and residence complex. Suspect and fellow armored car guard Travis Baumgartner's mother issued a statement pleading for the 21-year-old to turn himself in. Police spokesman Bob Hassel read from Sandy Baumgartner's emotional statement at a news conference in Edmonton. (Baumgartner was arrested the next day at the Lynden, Washington border crossing near Abbotsford, BC with more than 330-thousand dollars stashed in his truck. He was formally charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and four counts of robbery with a firearm. A trial was slated for September, 2013.)
