On July 12th, a large landslide hit the tiny community of Johnson's Landing, BC about 70 kilometers north of Nelson. Three homes were destroyed and four people were killed. The mother of two women who were buried under tones of debris said she knew her daughters were in one of the engulfed houses. Lynn Migdal now lives in Florida, but said she spoke with someone who was on the phone with her 17 and 22-year-old daughters, Rachel and Diana Webber, moments before the slide hit. (Migdal's ex-husband Valentine Webber was also killed in the landslide.)
