The Canada Border Services Agency ruled August 30th that the first female US war resister must return to the US. American soldier Kimberly Rivera fled to Canada in 2007 to avoid further military duty in Iraq. She had initially arrived while on leave but then applied for refugee status. Rivera said she was worried about what would happen to her if she ended up back in America. (The government ordered Rivera to return to the US by September 20th. Rivera had been living in Toronto with her husband and four children.)
