Post-tropical storm Leslie belted Newfoundland September 11th, unleashing hurricane-force winds on a large swath of the province's east coast and heavy rains in the west. Winds that topped 130 kilometers an hour in the St. John's region damaged roofs, trees and hydro lines, leaving thousands of homes without power. Striking airport worker Steve Piercey was out picketing as the storm hit. (Up to 100 millimeters of rain left many roads flooded.)
