Toronto-born convicted terrorist Omar Khadr was returned to Canada after spending nearly a decade in the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Public Safety Minister Vic Toews (TAYVZ) made a brief statement September 29th in Winnipeg, confirming Khadr landed at the Canadian Forces Base in Trenton, Ontario. (Khadr will serve out the remaining six years of his sentence in the 2002 death of a US special forces soldier in Afghanistan. Khadr had spent 10 years in the notorious US military prison in Guantanamo Bay. In 2010, he abruptly withdrew his not guilty plea and entered a guilty plea. He was given an eight-year sentence and permitted to apply for a transfer to Canada after the first year.)
