XL Foods, the Alberta beef plant at the center of an extensive beef recall sparked by an E. coli scare that sickened at least 18 people, began production once again on October 29th, under new management. Workers received extra training on food and work safety at the plant in Brooks, Alberta. It had been a long month for workers like Dale Moorhouse, who was a veteran meat cutter at X-L. (The plant had been closed since September 27th for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to review sanitation and meat-handling procedures.)
