Brian Gallant became the new leader of the New Brunswick Liberal party. Gallant won the leadership on October 27th, garnering 59 per cent of the total points available on the first ballot. The 30-year-old Moncton lawyer called on party members to unite. (Gallant said no decision had been made on when he might seek a seat in the provincial legislature. The Liberals hold just 13 of the 55 seats, after losing the last election in 2010.)
