On June 17th, interim Montreal mayor Michael Applebaum, who had cast himself as the man to clean up corruption scandals plaguing the city, was arrested on 14 charges including fraud, conspiracy, breach of trust, and corruption in municipal affairs. Police Commander Robert Lafreniere had a clear message for politicians suspected of corruption. (Applebaum resigned as mayor on June 18th.)
