Canadian Auto Workers president Ken Lewenza and Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union president Dave Coles, the heads of two of Canada's biggest private-sector unions, announced their resignations so a new set of leaders could take command as the two groups joined together in a historic merger on Labor Day weekend. But Lewenza said he would act as an "ambassador" for the new organization as it worked to sign up new members. (The new union would represent more than 300-thousand workers across roughly 20 sectors of the economy, primarily in manufacturing, communications and transportation.)
