Three people died after a Canadian Coast Guard helicopter crashed in Arctic waters during a routine patrol to check out ice conditions. The victims were on a chopper that was based on the icebreaker Amundsen, which was assigned to support scientific research in the summer. Louis Fortier is the Scientific Director for ArcticNet. (The dead included Marc Thibault, commanding officer of the ship, helicopter pilot Daniel Dube, and Klaus Hochheim, a University of Manitoba science researcher.)
