A Canadian rower with a fear of water became the first North American woman to complete a solo journey across the churning seas of the treacherous North Atlantic. Montrealer Mylene Paquette reached the shores of France November 12th after a five-thousand-kilometer voyage from Halifax. During her four-month odyssey, she faced nearly a dozen storms and capsized several times. But Paquette still hadn't conquered her fear of water. The 35-year-old said it may have had to something to do with watching a certain movie. (Paquette said the primary objective of her Transatlantic mission was to raise awareness about the protection of the environment and the importance of ocean ecosystems.)
