Former middleweight boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter died of prostate cancer at his home in Toronto at age 76. Carter became a tireless campaigner for the wrongfully convicted after spending almost 20 years in prison for a triple murder he didn't commit. After his US exoneration, Carter moved to Canada and helped start an advocacy group for the unjustly convicted. Association in Defense of the Wrongly Convicted director Win Wahrer said Carter was a devoted advocate. (Carter had his convictions in the 1966 New Jersey killings thrown out in 1985. His ordeal was immortalized in a Bob Dylan song and a Hollywood movie.)
