On June 4th, the Harper government introduced a long-awaited bill that would criminalize the purchase of sexual services, targeting pimps and johns. On June 14th, sex workers and their supporters rallied across Canada against the bill, saying its crackdown on johns and pimps would put lives at risk. At a Toronto rally, Jean MacDonald of advocacy group Maggie's said the proposed law would threaten prostitutes' safety by making them work in out-of-the-way areas.
