All half a million of British Columbia's public school students were locked out of their classrooms at the start of the school year as the teachers' strike continued. The teachers' union had launched a full-scale walkout about two weeks before the end of the last school year. Seventeen-year-old Queena Zeng said she was not blaming either side for the impasse, but she was afraid her education would be impacted negatively. (On September 16th, a marathon bargaining session resulted in a six-year tentative contract between the BC government and the public teachers' union. It was ratified on September 18th, allowing half a million students to start their school year.)
