The B-C government is under fire over funding cuts to an RCMP investigation into missing and murdered women. The Mounties cut six investigators last year from its probe into the so-called Highway of Tears to deal with provincial budget reductions. A newly released memo from the RCMP, written last spring, warns the cuts would hinder the investigation. NDP public safety critic Mike Farnworth says that undermines the government's commitments to help vulnerable women. (The B-C government says it consulted with the RCMP about the budget cuts and it's up to the force to determine where to allocate its resources.)
