Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says he wants to see an open and honest discussion on the issue of assisted dying. The Supreme Court has uimously struck down the ban on providing a doctor-assisted death to mentally competent but suffering and "irremediable" patients. Trudeau, who was speaking in Calgary, says the debate needs to leave politics out of it. (The court suspended its judgment for 12 months, during which the current law continues to apply, placing enormous pressure on Parliament to act in what is an election year.)
