A new study says up to almost 13 million tonnes of plastic garbage flowed into the world's oceans in 2010, with much of it coming from mismanaged landfills and litter. The report estimates the amount of plastic marine garbage could double over the next decade if not controlled. Researcher Kara Lavender Law says properly capturing plastic waste on land has to be a priority. (The research found that between 4.8 and 12.7 million metric tonnes of plastic entered the ocean in 2010.)
