The red Maple Leaf is marking a major milestone. Fifty years ago Sunday -- on February 15th, 1965, the now iconic symbol was first hoisted over Parliament Hill. Five decades ago, a young Joan O'Malley was summoned by her father one snowy November night to sew Canada's first Maple Leaf flag. O'Malley, who's now 70, says she's still proud of her role. (While there are no laws dictating how to fly or use the Canadian flag, protocols have developed over the years. Those include the flag always being flown on its own mast -- and that it should never touch the ground.)
