An impending strike by safety and maintece workers at C-P Rail has federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz worried. The union representing the 18-hundred workers has issued a strike notice for midnight Saturday. That's the same deadline given by another union representing 33-hundred locomotive engineers, conductors, trainmen and yardmen across Canada. Ritz says he is hopeful mediators will be successful because a prolonged strike could be harmful. (Ritz says the government will look at the tools available to make sure the economy doesn't suffer.)
