Robert Joseph says the demolition of St. Michaels Indian Residential School in the remote Vancouver Island community of Alert Bay is being viewed as a symbolic removal of a dark cloud over the community and many of its residents. Thousands of aboriginal children from British Columbia's north coast were sent to the Anglican Church run school where many faced physical and sexual abuse. (Assembly of First Nations National Chief Perry Bellegarde will attend a day-long demolition ceremony at the school grounds.)
