The federal government has announced a number of change to legislation aimed at improving rail safety. Transport Minister Lisa Raitt says rail carriers will have to pay into a fund to mitigate the costs of cleaning up any future spills of dangerous goods. (A crude-laden freight train derailed in the heart of Lac-Megantic in July 2013, killing 47 people and incinerating the downtown core.)
