The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is fine-tuning its rules about how companies can end payphone service in a community. The CRTC says companies will have to give formal notice before they pull out the last payphone. Commission Chairman Jean-Pierre Blais says payphone use has fallen drastically, but not everyone has abandoned them. (The number of payphones is expected to be down to around 55-thousand next year, compared with 118,000 in 2008.)
