Preview Clip

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is continuing with his government's tough on crime agenda. In Toronto today, he announced plans to introduce legislation to make a life sentence just that -- keeping certain criminals behind bars for the rest of their lives. The law would apply to those who kill police officers or correctional officers; commit acts of terrorism; who carry out kidnappings or sexual assaults that result in murder; or who commit crimes "of a particularly brutal nature." (Currently, those who are convicted of first-degree murder face an automatic sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.)
