A woman in Vancouver who was told she had terminal cancer says she now is optimistic about the future after an experimental treatment sent the disease into remission. Trish Keating was part of a clinical trial at the B-C Cancer Agency that is using genomics to guide treatment. In her case, testing suggested using a medicine commonly used to treat high blood pressure. Keating says doctors had told her she was dying, but after just five weeks, there was no sign of the cancer. (Researchers caution the clinical trial into genomics testing is in its early stages and it could be years before it is put into more widespread use to treat cancer.)
