Federal Defence Minister Jason Kenney says it was the death of Corporal Nathan Cirillo in Ottawa last October that pushed the government into giving veteran reservists access to the same benefits and support that full-time members of the Canadian Forces receive. Kenney told reporters in Calgary that a special exemption was made for Cirillo's family. (Kenney says it is unfortunate that the government did not recognize the oversight earlier.)
