A 32-million-dollar project to replace a key bridge in Edmonton could be delayed up to one year after four, 40-tonne steel girders mysteriously buckled. Barry Belcourt, manager of Edmonton's construction branch, says the safety hazard posed by the twisted metal means a major route below the 102nd Avenue Bridge must stay closed until further notice, perhaps for a few weeks. (Belcourt says engineering teams are investigating to determine exactly what went wrong.)
