A Quebec court judge has denied bail to former Alpine Canada ski coach Bertrand Charest, who faces more than 50 charges in the alleged sexual assaults of 11 young girls. The 49-year-old Charest will now remain behind bars as he awaits his next court date on April 22nd. Crown prosecutor Aryanne Guerin (gair-EH') says the judge cited a couple of reasons for rejecting bail. (The young athletes ranged in aged from 12 to 19 when Charest allegedly assaulted them north of Montreal and in France, Austria, New Zealand and the United States. Dressed in a light blue shirt, the handcuffed Charest stared down throughout much of the proceedings, which were also attended by his female partner. He only paid attention as the judge began listing the reasons why Charest should not be set free.)
