The 80-year-old dispute over a treaty for Alberta's Lubicon Cree may be a step closer to being resolved. Federal Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt appointed a chief negotiator to try to settle the claim. Lubicon Lake Band Chief Billy Joe Laboucan says the move is welcome. (Laboucan has said the parties are discussing economic development funding, resource ownership and compensation for resources already extracted from a 250-square-kilometre parcel of land.)
