Defence Minister Jason Kenney is defending the proposed expanded mission against I-SIL. He says his department got an outside opinion that said bypassing the Assad regime to bomb targets in Syria does not violate international law. Kenney says the Judge Advocate General, the chief lawyer to the Canadian military, says our military operations in Syria are justified under Article 51 of the United Nations charter -- specifically the right of independent and collective self-defence. (NDP leader Tom Mulcair is again criticizing the mission today, calling it Stephen Harper's war -- not Canada's war.)
