The Iron Ore Company of Canada is laying off 150 workers indefinitely from its mine in Labrador City effective June 14th. Mayor Karen Oldford says it's the latest blow in a region hit by closures last year at Wabush Mines and Bloom Lake in Quebec. (About two thousand people work at the mine. The company says slumping iron ore prices mean it must cut costs to make production in Labrador viable.)
