Wildrose leader Brian Jean is pledging to end the outrageous vehicle and housing perks that members of the legislature enjoy. He wants to introduce new rules based on best practices from the private sector and federal government. Jean says under the current rules, MLA mileage runs on the honour system without having to keep a log of trips, with many politicians running a profit. (Jeans says members are compensated at a rate of 43.5 cents per kilometre and taxpayers also pick up the tab on an exclusive credit card that pays for all fuel, car washes and oil changes.)
