Nova Scotia's 10 universities would have to report on their financial health and progress in meeting academic goals under new legislation tabled today by the provincial government. Advanced Education Minister Kelly Regan says the move is necessary because the province can't afford to bail out schools that may get into financial trouble. Acadia University president Ray Ivany says universities recognize the need to address financial challenges head-on. (Regan says the legislation is the first of its kind in Canada.)
