A British Columbia aboriginal group has called on supporters from across North America to oppose attempts to reopen the Mount Polley mine -- the site of an environmental disaster last year in the Cariboo. Women's Warrior Society spokeswoman Kanahus (KAN'-ah-huus) Manuel says opponents to the mine gathered at the Toronto Stock Exchange, B-C government offices and in at least two US cities today. (A public permit application process to reopen the gold and copper mine is underway and a decision is expected in June.)
